This report evaluates the increase in energy of the pass partition plate during the start-up of the
heat exchanger and the heat transferred within the body of the heat exchanger channel. Due to the varied
thickness of the components of the heat exchanger, the inherent constraints are built up and if the
start-up is not controlled, the temperature difference in the transient phase of the startup can cause
stress in the channel components to go above the allowable or even the yielding due to the inherent
constraints and cause buckling of the plate.
